A world record and more medals for the Czech team on the second day of Grand Prix in Olomouc
The second competition day of the Women's Para Athletics World Cup in Olomouc brought plenty of joy to Czech fans.
Spectators in the stands and viewers of the live broadcast were especially captivated by the close sprint battle in the 100m T47 category and the all-Czech podium in the discus throw for the F31/F32 category. The event also featured a new world record with a Kazakh signature.
From the Czech perspective, the highlight of Friday’s program was undoubtedly the 100m race in the T47 category, which featured a prestigious showdown between Tereza Jakschová and Ada Boudníková. The more experienced Jakschová ultimately prevailed in this Czech mini-duel, securing silver overall with a time of 13.22. "I ran my best time of the season, so I’m happy about that. Of course, it could be even better, but the World Championships are in three months, so there’s still time to run faster," said Jakschová confidently at the finish line.
Sixteen-year-old Boudníková finished with a personal best of 13.51, just two-tenths behind Jakschová, and had mixed feelings about the result.
"I'm really happy with such a big personal best, but I’m also a bit upset that it wasn’t under 13.50. That bothers me. But at the same time, it’s motivation for next time." Boudníková is set to compete at the European Para Youth Games in Istanbul at the end of July but is already looking much further ahead. "My biggest dream is to run at the Paralympics in Los Angeles. That would be absolutely fantastic," revealed the talented young athlete. "She’s a big promise—maybe she’s the future me. If she stays disciplined and follows her path, she could achieve great things," Jakschová added about her teammate.
Shot putter Anna Luxová also made an unusual appearance in the 100m race, competing in the F35/F36 category. She put in a strong performance on the track and matched her shot put silver from Thursday. "Time 18.88 is average for me, but I run because I love it. I started as a sprinter, and when the 100m comes after shot put, I’m happy to race. I have nothing to lose, and honestly, Olomouc couldn’t have gone much better," she said joyfully. Pavlína Absolonová also leaves Haná region thrilled. After winning bronze in the 800 meters on Thursday, she claimed the same medal in the 1500 meters T20 category with a time of 5:14.47. The discus event in the F31/F32 category turned into a Czech championship, as no international athletes competed. Anna Marcaníková won gold with a personal best of 8.68 meters.
A brilliant finale to the first-ever women’s Grand Prix on Czech soil was delivered by Irina Tychshenko of Kazakhstan, who set a new world record in the F45 shot put category with a throw of 8.79 meters. Veteran German para athlete Martina Willing also shone in the javelin, throwing 18.52 meters in the F56 category at the age of 56—over two meters farther than Czech silver medalist Miroslava Obrová. Italy’s Ambra Sabatini secured her second gold medal in the long jump, setting a personal record with a leap of 4.67 meters. Another world record holder, Raoua Tlili from Tunisia, won the shot put with a throw of 10.38 meters—just 18 centimeters short of her own world record. South African thrower Simoné Kruger lived up to expectations by winning the discus with a throw of 36.85 meters.
A highlights reel of the key moments from the second day have been broadcasted on Czech TV Sport.
